What this part of the draft does

Clause 3 carries the vocabulary. It adopts the terms of ISO 37000 and ISO 37004 and adds the terms the group case needs: the controlled group, the controlling member stakeholder, the group governance framework and the group purpose. Twenty-one defined terms sit in four groups: groups of organizations, governance roles, governance concepts and group governance components.

What it means when you apply it

The definitions do real work. The controlled-group definition decides whether the guidance applies at all, and the controller and group-purpose definitions decide who is being evaluated. Read clause 3 before the model, and use its words in the board paper so that a later reader can trace the reasoning.

The clause reference is the draft's public contents heading. From clause 4 onwards the body is not in the free preview, so this page states the public heading, the model it draws on and our own reading, and does not present the draft's text.

What to keep beside the evaluation

A glossary in the evaluation file, using the draft's terms, with a note where the group uses a different word internally.
