Answer

How should a group prepare for ISO/DIS 37014?

Map the group boundary, record the group purpose, adopt the 0 to 5 scale and the three aspects, inventory the governance components, and put a review date in the governance calendar. None of that depends on the final text.

01The detail

Start with the boundary

The definition decides whether the guidance applies. Build the entity list, name each governing body, and cite the instrument that gives the controller its right. A group that cannot produce this map cannot apply the model.

Then the method

Adopt the six-point scale and the three aspects before you rate anything. Choose the dimensions, the raters and the aggregation method in advance. An evaluation designed after the ratings is a rationalisation.

Then the evidence

For each dimension, collect the board record, the component inventory, the practice mapping and the assessment against the objective. The evidence is what makes a level defensible, and it is the part most first attempts underestimate.

The first ninety days

Days one to thirty: build the boundary map and record the group purpose. Days thirty-one to sixty: adopt the scale, the aspects and the dimensions, and take the governing body resolution. Days sixty-one to ninety: inventory the components, choose the raters and run one entity as a calibration. That sequence needs no final text and leaves the group ready whichever way the ballot goes. Keep the boundary map and the resolution in the same file as the evaluation, so a later reader can see what was decided before the first rating was taken.
